Crash Data Retrieval
Certified technicians at Collision Forensics, LLC, use the most advanced software and hardware available for crash data retrieval. Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) is the highly technical process of accessing electronic crash and pre-crash data that may be recorded in a vehicle's on-board event data recorder (EDR), otherwise known as the "BLACK BOX". At Collision Forensics, LLC, we primarily use the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System (CDR) to access data that may be stored in a vehicle's Airbag Control Module (ACM), Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Roll-Over Sensor (ROS). The data is imaged and a report is generated in readable format providing crucial information in the analysis and reconstruction of a vehicle crash. The data may include such parameters as pre-crash speed, delta-V, brake status, throttle position, steering input, seat belt status and more. This important information is analyzed by our experts and used as part of the complete reconstruction process.
Important Information About Vehicle Coverage
It is important to note that not all vehicles record crash data! The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) passed a law in 2012 known as "Rule 563" which essentially requires all manufacturers of vehicles produced for sale in the United States to electronically record a specific set of pre-crash data parameters in the event of a collision of significant enough severity. However, earlier model vehicles from some manufacturers may not record data that is accessible using the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System.
