4.
What is the "BLACK BOX" inside my vehicle?
The "black box" is actually an event data recorder located inside your vehicle's airbag control module (ACM), power train control module (PCM) or similar component, that may be able to record electronic data related to a crash. Some of the data that an event data recorder or "black box" might record includes pre-crash speed, pre-crash braking, steering input and seatbelt status. The amount and type of data that may be recorded depends on the year, model and make of your vehicle. At Collision Forensics, LLC, we have state of the art equipment including the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Tool (CDR) that allows us to access this very important data and use it in the overall reconstruction process.
